8/5/2023 0 Comments Raymond franzThe Orwellian World of Jehovah’s Witnesses, pp. ![]() 17-18 This statement, which placed blame for the disappointment about 1975 on Raymond Franz and his writing committee, precipitated a purge of that committee and eventual disfellowshipping of its sometime Chairman. 17 It told disappointed Jehovah’s Witnesses, "including persons having to do with the publication of the information that contributed to the buildup of hopes centred on that date" to "concentrate on adjusting his viewpoint".pp. ![]() The 15 March 1980 issue of The Watchtower issued a statement of regret that its assertions of probability of Armageddon arriving before 1975 had "apparently overshadowed the cautionary ones and contributed to a buildup of expectation already initiated."p. Staff were also questioned about comments Franz had made that may have contradicted Watch Tower doctrine. The following month a committee of the Governing Body raised concerns over the spreading of "wrong teachings" emanating from headquarters staff and began questioning headquarters staff on their beliefs. In March 1980 Franz and his wife took leave of absence from the world headquarters for health reasons and moved to Alabama, where he took up laboring work on a property owned by a fellow Witness. Franz wrote two books that related his personal experiences with the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society and his views on Jehovah’s Witnesses teachings. Franz claimed the request for his resignation and his subsequent disfellowshipping resulted from allegations of his apostasy from the faith. He came to love the lowcountry and enjoyed shrimping with his son-in-law, James Boren. He also loved duck hunting in the years he lived in New Orleans. Raymond loved the outdoors and was an avid golfer and fisherman. He coached youth baseball with the Mount Pleasant Recreation Department and was a proud member of the Football Chain Gang at Wando High School. Raymond was a parishioner at Christ Our King Catholic Church and had been a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an Electrical Engineer with the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC). Raymond was born Octoin Biloxi, Mississippi, son of the late John Bernard Franz and Gertrude Zay Franz. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, Mafrom 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Rite of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, Main Christ Our King Catholic Church, 1149 Russell Drive. Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Barbara Geigerman Franz passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2015.
